KSCLS is a constituent society of The American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) and by joining it and electing to join KSCLS, you will enjoy the benefits of both.
KSCLS members are provided our quarterly digital newsletter, The Kansas Scope, straight to their inbox. It features laboratory news from around the state, updates on important developments in Kansas, case studies, interviews with our members, and much more.
In addition to the state’s newsletter, members also have access to two ASCLS publications, both sent in a physical format to your mailing address. Clinical Laboratory Science is an award-winning, quarterly journal featuring articles on the very latest in research, education, and government actions affecting the profession. ASCLS Today, is the Society’s newsletter published 10 times a year that provides timely updates on activities in the legislative, educational and membership arenas. These publications, along with additional mailings targeted to Society leaders, keep our members informed.
Annual Meetings and Expositions
Becoming a member allows you to register for the KSCLS Annual Meeting and Exposition, a two day event held yearly that gives you the opportunity to network with your peers throughout the state, enhance your knowledge and fulfill continuing education requirements, visit with vendors regarding your laboratory’s needs, and have a great time with other KSCLS members.
Along with KSCLS’ meeting, members can also register for the ASCLS Annual Meeting and Exposition, the premier continuing education event in clinical laboratory science with five days filled with technical workshops and symposiums, featuring some of the brightest minds from around the country. In addition, the event also showcases the industry’s largest exhibition hall of the latest trends and technologies in laboratory testing.
Your membership ensures that you continue to have a seat at the proverbial table in regards to governmental policy. A portion of your membership allows outreach efforts to Kansas Senators and Representatives regarding topics that are important to you as a laboratorian, whether that means recognizing the great work we do, ensuring patient safety, or even protecting the scope of your practice.
Now, more than ever, we need to be a strong united voice to ensure that legislation works for the laboratorian and not against them.
Membership also allows ASCLS liaisons to members of Congress, Federal and state agencies. They ensure that the concerns of the profession are heard in Congress, not just via Kansas but from all 50 states. To ensure effective advocacy, each year ASCLS also holds a Legislative Symposium where participants meet with members of Congress to discuss the issues important to the profession and to advocate for our best interests.
Membership to KSCLS/ASCLS provides access to P.A.C.E.®, Professional Acknowledgment for Continuing Education credit eligible programs, webcasts, CD’s and online course offerings that can be used to maintain certification. ASCLS also provides an excellent tool, known as their CE Organizer, that will populate your P.A.C.E. credits directly to the ASCP BOC system to easily and efficiently organize your continuing education when the time comes for maintaining certification.
