Annual Meeting

The 2018 annual meeting will be a joint production of KSCLS, ASCLS-Missouri, and Heart of America CLMA.  It will be held April 11 – 12, 2018 at the Marriott Kansas City Overland Park (their official name, not ours) in Overland Park, Kansas.  A map is located below for your planning.

The Patchwork of Knowledge 2018 will be held at the Marriott Kansas City Overland Park, located at 10800 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS, 66210.

For the those coming from far and wide, rooms are available at the adjoining Marriott Kansas City Overland Park for the special group rate of $138 per night.  This rate is available until March 20, 2018, while supplies last, so be sure to book your rooms in advance.  Rooms can be reserved directly through the hotel on their website HERE.

Keynote Speakers

As always, you can expect fantastic continuing education opportunities with top rate speakers, and vendors and manufacturers featuring their latest and greatest in the exhibit hall.

We are pleased to invite Patty Eschliman, MHA, MLS(ASCP)DLM, CPC as the first of our two keynotes to charge you up first thing Wednesday morning with a presentation on Energy Leadership.

Patty Eschliman, has 33 years of laboratory experience, the last 23 of those years, in laboratory management.  An active member of the CLMA since 1997, Patty has held leadership positions within the Nebraska and Western Iowa Great Plains Chapter as well as serving as an International Board of Director member since 2009.  She currently represents the interests of CLMA with a seat on the ASCP Board of Certification, Board of Governors.  Patty volunteers on the Executive Committee, Finance Committee, and is the Board Liaison to the Laboratory Management Exam (DLM).  In 2013, Patty completed her Masters in Healthcare Administration and is now the Immediate Past-President of CLMA.

Headlining our Thursday sessions is Jane Hermansen, MBA, MT(ASCP) who will be speaking about the Value of the Laboratory.

Jane Hermansen has over 30 years of clinical laboratory experience, within community hospital and academic medical center settings.  At Mayo Clinic since 1988, she currently manages the outreach consulting and health plan contracting network activities for hospital laboratories across the country.

Jane is President of the Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA).  She has contributed to the laboratory industry by presenting at over 100 state and national professional meetings, has written numerous articles for industry publications, and has personally trained over 1800 laboratory professionals in the art of customer service.  Her experience includes clinical research, process engineering, consulting, training and facilitation, and project management.  She holds a B.A. in Medical Technology from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the New York Institute of Technology.

Bringing our Patchwork of Knowledge 2018 to a close will be Carla Orner, MBA, MT(ASCP), who will be continuing a theme from last year, in making life better for others with a talk about Volunteer Opportunities in Laboratory Medicine.

Carla Orner has over 40 years of laboratory experience, 15 of those in microbiology.  She was formerly the manager of two hospital clinical laboratories and is currently the Director of Programs for Heart to Heart International (HHI), headquartered in Olathe, Kansas, where she has served since 2006.  HHI provides laboratory services locally through free clinics and health fairs.  Internationally, they are known for their efforts in providing medical care and disaster relief in developing nations, most recently, in Haiti and Guatemala.  HHI also partners with Becton Dickinson (BD) to provide continuing education to laboratorians across the world.
